ALGIERS- The participants in the 6th International Conference on Peoples’ Right to Resistance on Saturday, in Algiers, commended Algeria’s support to peoples struggling for
their liberty and dignity and its persistent call to speed up the referendum on Western Sahara people’s self-determination, in line with pertinent UN resolutions.
Arab and foreign delegations attending the sixth Conference on “Peoples’ Right to Resistance: the Case of Sahrawi People, in a message to President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, thanked Algeria for its efforts and for facilitations they received throughout the event, which they dubbed a “total success.”
Western Sahara activists welcomed the efforts of Algeria, under the leadership of President Bouteflika, for its “unfailing support to the peoples fighting for their independence and dignity, and its support for all liberation movements in the world.”
They stressed that such a support is not unknown to Algerian people, as they are imbued with the principles of liberty, political activism and attachment to the values of the Algerian Revolution (1954-1962).
The speakers at the conference praised the leading role of President Bouteflika, under the chairmanship of whom the UN General Assembly expelled the delegation of the apartheid regime in 1974.
The UN General Assembly’s position toward the apartheid regime’s delegation in 1974 “paved the way for the end of racial segregation in South Africa.”
The conference also underlined the recognition of the Palestinian cause, by the UN General Assembly under the chairmanship of Abdelaziz Bouteflika, based on the right of all colonized peoples to liberty and independence, including Western Sahara people.
