NAIROBI (Kenya)- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel met Sunday, in Nairobi (Kenya), with the Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to whom he handed over a written message from the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
On the sidelines of the 6th International Tokyo Conference on African Development Summit (TICAD VI), Messahel assured the Kenyan President of the full support of President Bouteflika for the success of the Conference and Algeria’s determination to strengthen and deepen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
In this regard, Messahel informed the Kenyan President on the progress of the preparations for the holding, next November in Nairobi, of the first Algerian-Kenyan Joint Commission.
In this regard, Messahel said that fifteen (15) cooperation agreements will be signed on this occasion.
For his part, the President Kenyatta reiterated the highlights of his visit in Algeria on February 2015 and the very fruitful discussion he had with president Bouteflika.
Issues of regional security, particularly in the Horn of Africa, Libya and Western Sahara were the focus of discussions, as well as the upcoming African deadlines notably those of the 28th Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union scheduled for January 2017.
On this occasion, the Kenyan President charged the minister to convey to the President of the Republic a message of friendship while assuring him of Kenya’s availability to strengthen the bilateral cooperation and dialogue between the two countries on the continental and international issues of common interest.
The audience took place in the presence of the Kenyan Deputy President, William Ruto.
