TUNIS (Tunisia)- The director general of national police, Major General Abdelghani Hamel, emphasized Wednesday, in Tunis, the pioneering experience of Algeria in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism,
of which it got out victorious through the national reconciliation policy initiated by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika and approved by the Algerian people.
“My country, which has a pioneering experience in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism, is fully aware that total elimination of terrorist groups is not an easy task,” Hamel said in an address at the 40th conference of Arab police and security chiefs.
“Algeria, which has fought terrorism alone, backed by its own force and determination, has managed to win over the scourge through a multidimensional approach it adopted.”
Such an approach was “crowned by the national reconciliation initiated by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika and approved by all the Algerian people.”
“Fighting such groups is the responsibility of the whole international community and all State institutions,” Hamel said.
Algeria, after an accurate assessment of the hazards and challenges relating to terrorism, on both national and regional levels, has adopted an overall, coherent and coordinated fighting strategy, abiding by the international rules in force and human rights principles.”
The national reconciliation policy “deserves credit for having put an end to the national tragedy and restored peace and security countrywide, making it possible to relaunch economic and social programmes,” Hamel stressed.
