ADDIS ABABA- President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s Memorandum on the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in Africa has been adopted Tuesday by the Heads of state and government of the African Union (AU) during their 29th Summit held on 3-4 July in Addis Ababa.
The document, entitled “Memorandum on the prospects of the prevention and fight against terrorism and violent extremism in African,” was presented Monday, the first day of the AU summit, by Premier Abdelmadjid Tebboune, representative of President Bouteflika at the works of the continental conference held on “Taking full advantage of demographic dividend while investing in youth.”
The Memorandum of President Bouteflika, appointed by his African counterparts as Africa’s coordinator for the fight against terrorism and violent extremism in Africa, includes 7 priority points as set by the competent bodies of The African Union and the United Nations Security Council.
While presenting the Memorandum, Premier Abdelmadjid Tebboune stressed that the creation by AU of the mission of Coordinator for the prevention of violent extremism and counterterrorism “shows the importance our continent attaches to these threats and their potentially devastating effects on innocents and the destruction of goods, resources and infrastructures Africa does need.”
Therefore, terrorism phenomenon “has become today a serious threat to international peace and security. No country is immune to this threat,” affirmed Tebboune, recalling that “the map of the last attacks, victims, destruction and fear shows the extension of the action field to all regions of the world.
