Counterterrorism: Algiers to host two workshops on role of internet and democracy in next April, May

ALGIERS-Minister of Maghreb Affairs, the African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel announced Thursday in Algiers the holding in next April and May of two workshops on the role of internet and democracy in counterterrorism.
As part of efforts in counterterrorism, Algeria will host in next April and May two workshops on the role of internet and social networks in the again cyber-terrorism and the role of democracy in counterterrorism,” Messahel announced at the works of the workshop on the role of criminal justice in counterterrorism in the Sahel.
On this occasion, Messahel hailed the efforts of participants in this workshop that “enabled us to be aware of the region’s needs in counterterrorism.”
Counterterrorism in Sahel: Messahel receives Canadian ambassador David Drake
ALGIERS- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League, Abdelkader Messahel received Thursday, in Algiers, Canadian ambassador, David Drake.
The audience took place on the sidelines of the experts workshop on the “role of criminal justice in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel region,” organized by working groups on the strengthening of the Sahel region’s countries’ capacities, and whose closure is scheduled for Thursday.
This meeting included the presence of ambassador and advisor at the ministry of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League, Houas Ayache.
Drake and Riache co-chair the workshop on the “role of criminal justice in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel region.”
Algeria welcomed, over two days, the works of this workshop as part of its participation to the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), of which it is a founding member, co-chaired with Canada.
In addition to the participation of member states of the GCFT and the United Nations’ Security Council, the workshop brings together representatives of about ten international and regional organizations, including the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU), the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as countries of the Sahel region.
