Convergence of positions of Algiers, Moscow on respect of countries’ sovereignty

ALGIERS- The speaker of Russia’s State Duma, Sergey Naryshkin highlighted, Wednesday in Algiers, the “convergence” of positions of Algeria and Russia concerning the need to respect the sovereignty of the two countries and the international law.
“We underlined the convergence of positions of Russia and Algeria concerning the international agenda and the need to respect the supremacy of the international law and the countries’ sovereignty,” the Speaker of the State Duma told the press at the end of his meetings with the Speaker of the people’s National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament), Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa.
Narychkine said that “the events in the Middle East and the unstable situation in Libya, Syria, and Iraq are mainly the result of obvious foreign interference,” deploring the “serious consequences of these events which generated destruction, chaos and death.”
Furthermore, the two parties agreed on the necessity to boost the bilateral relations, particularly in the parliamentary field as the main vector of the development of relations.
For his part, Ould Khelifa dubbed the discussions with the Speaker of the State Duma “fruitful,” underlining that Algeria and Russia are working “to expand the relations between the two bodies through the coordination and exchange of visits, particularly in this difficult global context.”
The Speaker of the Lower House broached the long standing relations between Algeria and Russia adding that the “cooperation between the two countries is based on a strategic partnership.”
The Speaker of Russia’s State Duma , Sergey Naryshkin, arrived in Algiers on Wednesday as part of an official visit at the invitation of the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly, Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa.
