APS : Thursday 24 January 2019
ALGIERS- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Thursday in Algiers that he was “ready” to consider with his Algerian counterpart the possible cancellation of visas for the nationals with ordinary passports.
“We are ready to examine this matter with our Algerian friends,” he told a Russian journalist as he co-hosted a news conference with Algerian FM Abdelkader Messahel.
“We are for the creation of favorable conditions for our citizens and those of the partner countries,” he said following the talks he had with Abdelkader Messahel.
In February 2018, the two ministers signed an agreement in Moscow on the cancellation of visas for the nationals holding diplomatic and service passports with a view to “facilitating exchanges of delegations between the two countries.”
Asked about the possibility of organizing, in the near future, a summit meeting between the two countries, the minister assured that the “contacts will continue at all levels”, stressing that the “precise timetable” will be “established gradually”.
“Surely after the presidential election which are to be held soon in Algeria,” he added on this subject.
The Russian minister arrived on Wednesday in Algiers for a working visit, at the invitation of his counterpart, Abdelkader Messahel.
