Blinken commends Algeria’s role in promoting stability in Sahel, Libya

WASHINGTON (United States)- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed Thursday, in Washington, the role of Algeria in promoting stability in the Sahel and Libya, commending its efforts for energy and economic
diversification, the spokesman of the Department of State, Ned Price, said.
In a telephone interview with Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum, the Secretary of State commended Algeria’s role in promoting stability in the Sahel and Libya and welcomed its efforts in economic and energy diversification and its desire to attract more American companies to Algeria,” Ned Price said in a statement issued by the State Department.
“He noted that the United States was pleased to be the guest of honor at Algeria’s 2022 International Trade Fair,” adding that “the two officials stressed the strong US-Algerian partnership.”
During the interview, Blinken and Boukadoum discussed “boosting bilateral relations based on shared values and common interests,” Ned Price added.
They also discussed “opportunities to increase cooperation in Africa to promote economic prosperity and regional stability.”
In a tweet, Blinken welcomed his exchange with Boukadoum and reiterated the importance of relations between the two countries (Algeria and the United States). This “will help advance common interests.”
“We discussed our desire to see stability and prosperity in Libya and the Sahel,” he wrote.
On Thursday, the head of Algerian diplomacy, Sabri Boukadoum, said he had discussed, “by telephone, with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between Algeria and the United States in various areas.”
The two sides also exchanged views on regional issues of common interest, including the situation in Western Sahara, Mali and Libya.
