PARIS- Algeria’s role is “crucial” for the stability of the Euro-Mediterranean zone, affirmed an information report of the French Senate, underlining that the revival of the European Union- Algeria relations has become a reality.
The revival of the relations between EU and Algeria has become a reality with the elaboration of new partnership priorities. The Euro-Mediterranean relation will only become strengthened from the effective resumption of dialogue with a country whose role is crucial for the stability of the zone, said a report written on behalf of the Commission of the European Affairs on the Mediterranean Neighbourhood Policy: case of Algeria, whose members decided to release it.
The revival of the relations between the European Union (EU) and Algeria has become a reality with the elaboration of new partnership priorities, he added.
Presented by the senator Simon Sutour (Socialist Party), the document underlines that the revision of the European Neighbourhood Policy, in December 2015, contributed to a second breath to the relation between EU and Algeria, pointing out the need to deepen the ties between the two sides.
Algeria hoped, on 31 August 2015, an assessment of the association agreement, describing it as unbalanced. The negotiations led to the adoption of new partnership priorities in the 10th association Council which took place in Brussels on 13 March 2017.
The report of the French Senate underlines that the Algerian authorities seem also to be in favour of deepening these ties, adding that Algeria wants to develop, through these ties, its geostrategic position and contribution to the energy policy of the European Union.
