ALGIERS – The Algerian- Romanian bilateral relations have “bright prospect, Romania’s Foreign Minister Teodor Melescanu said Sunday in Algiers.
Algeria is “one of the largest economic partners” of Romania.
“I have the very clear feeling that our bilateral relations have bright prospects. I am convinced that this dialogue will be followed by concrete actions from both countries and that we will have in the future a key partner in the region of North Africa, the Sahel and the Arab region,” Melescanu said after meeting Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel.
The Romanian FM said that Algeria was one of “Romania’s largest economic partners and that he had an “excellent discussion” with Messahel about the international issues, and the “reinforcement of the bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and education sectors.”
In this regard, a working group will elaborate a “roadmap” to enhance the two countries’ cooperation, announced Melescanu.
The Romanian minister said he has invited Messahel to visit Romania.
Convening the Joint Economic Committee, the development of cooperation in the field of innovation and the Romanian investment in the Algerian economy have also been discussed, in addition to the regional questions of which Messahel made an “excellent presentation,” according to the Romanian FM.
Melescanu said that his country was “interested” in the Algerian experience in terms of de-radicalization.
As for him, Messahel added that he and his Romanian counterpart discussed the bilateral issues, notably agriculture and vocational training.
The meeting also focused on the revision of certain agreements which have been previously concluded between the two countries, he added.
The Algerian and Romanian Foreign Ministers broached the Algerian experience in the fight against violence, violent extremism, and all the “policies initiated by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika as the civil harmony and the national reconciliation, which helped Algeria to regain total stability in a region shaken by crises.”
