ALGIERS- The fifth strategic dialogue between Algeria and the United States on security and counterterrorism issues will be held in June in Algiers, said Sunday, in Algiers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a communiqué.
This decision was taken on the occasion of the talks which were held at the ministry’s headquarters between Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel and Acting Principal Deputy Coordinator for Counterterrorism at the US Department of State Alina Romanowski who is on a working visit to Algeria, said the source.
The talks between the two officials also allowed “a large exchange of views on the state of the bilateral cooperation in counterterrorism as well as security situation in the region, notably the issue of the return of foreign terrorist combatants and the threat it poses to the regional and international security,” said the source.
Romanowski underlined her country’s interest to “further develop the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of the cooperation between the two countries, particularly in terms of de-radicalization and strengthening of actions aimed at drying up the several sources of terrorism financing.”
For his part, Messahel emphasized “the efforts made by Algeria in its capacity as coordinator of Africa for the prevention from radicalization and the fight against terrorism in the continent,” underlining that an international conference devoted to the strengthening of the international fight against terrorism financing will be held in April in Algiers.
This conference will be organized as part of the Global Forum of fight against terrorism in collaboration with the African Union, said Messahel.
