ALGIERS- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel has called for reforming the Arab League to get it adapted to current changes worldwide, so as to play an effective role in defending the interests of the Arab nation.
“The Arab League should adapt to the changes taking place across the world in the geostrategic, political, security and economic fields, to be able to play an effective role in defending the interests of the Arab nation,” the minister told National Radio Channel 1 in a broadcast to which he was invited.
Messahel stressed that the Pan-Arab organization should have a more “efficient” and a more “impartial” role.
The minister reiterated the proposal Algeria made at the 2005 Arab League summit regarding the reform of the Arab League.
Mentioning Palestine issue, Messahel stressed Algeria’s “unfailing” support to the Palestinian people who are defending their legitimate rights.
Algeria, Messahel said with respect to Syrian and Yemenite issues, has always recommended a political solution to settle the two crises, a position, he added, based on the fact that there is no alternative.
Such a solution, he added, “will preserve the territorial integrity of the two countries in line with the will of their respective populations.”
