ALGIERS- Algeria, Niger and Chad called, on Sunday in Algiers, to ensure the “faithful and full” implementation of the peace agreement in Mali, inviting the international community to assist this country in the rebuilding and development efforts.
Algeria, Niger and Chad “called on all parties to ensure the faithful and full implementation of the provisions of the agreement within the framework of the follow-up committee with a view to consolidating peace,” said a joint statement issued at the end of a tripartite meeting devoted to the situation in the sub-region, particularly in Libya.
The three countries “noted with satisfaction the positive evolution of the situation in Mali following the signing of the peace and national reconciliation agreement under the aegis of the international mediation, led by Algeria,” and called on the “international community to assist Mali in its rebuilding and development efforts, especially in the northern regions.”
They also “underlined the need for more consultations between the three countries in order to meet the various challenges posed to the region and to efficiently fight against terrorism and the transnational organized crime, which are fuelled by drug trafficking and the proliferation of weapons.”
In this regard, they reiterated their commitment to “coordinate their efforts and to strengthen consultation at all levels.”
The meeting brought together Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel, Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, African Integration and Niger’s Community Abroad Kane Aichatou Boulama, and Chad’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Integration Moussa Faki Mahamat.
