Algeria “keen to strengthen partnership with all countries with which it has relations”

MADRID (Spain)- Algeria is a country that is “keen to strengthen its partnership with all the countries with which it has longstanding cooperation and exchange relations,” said Thursday, in Madrid (Spain), the minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League, Abdelkader Messahel.
Messahel, who co-chaired, with the Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Ignacio Ibanez the first Algerian-Spanish strategic dialogue session, broached the importance of this strategic dialogue with Spain, underlining that this meeting allowed the two parties to review the issues relating to common interest in the region and beyond, the challenges in the region “whether they are part of the fight against terrorism or crises in the region,” to achieve, “in the framework of a show of solidarity between the neighbouring countries to make efforts to try and support those made by the United Nations, to reach definitive solutions.”
In this regard, the minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League noted the “efforts made by Algeria in Libya’s case for some time, to support Libyans in the framework of a direct dialogue between them.”
This first Spanish-Algerian dialogue session also allowed discussing issues relating to migration. Abdelkader Messahel said that the issue was broached as “a phenomenon as seen around the world and not an issue of turning back illegal migrants or others.”
