ALGIERS- Algeria and France are willing to move their bilateral relations to a “qualitatively new stage in accordance with” the orientations of the two countries’ presidents, said Monday in Algiers, General Secretary of Foreign Ministry Hassen Rabehi.
Following a working meeting with French counterpart Christian Masset, Rabehi said that the two parties affirmed their “attachment to move their bilateral relations to a qualitatively new stage, in accordance with the orientations of Presidents Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Francois Hollande.”
Rabehi and Masset presided over the 3rd session of the follow-up committee of the High level Inter-governmental and Strategic Dialogue Committee between Algeria and France.
“This meeting has been an appropriate framework to assess the evolution of the bilateral cooperation in all the fields and discuss the timetable of the meetings and the cooperation projects which are to be concluded in the future,” he added.
Moreover, Rabehi said that he and Masset examined the regional issues of common interest, “highlighting the principles, notably the non-interference in countries’ internal affairs, respect of the international law and peaceful settlement to conflicts.”
“We are very satisfied with the outcomes of our candid talks, marked with sincere willingness to deepen and consolidate the relations between the two countries,” he said.
Secretary-General of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation dubbed “extraordinarily large” the relations with Algeria, adding that the bilateral cooperation in the field of employment, movement of persons, health, education, higher education and scientific research have been also examined during the meeting.
“We have a unique and extremely productive relationship,” he said, saying the cooperation is “in full swing” since President Hollande’s state visit to Algeria in 2012.
