ALGIERS – Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mohamat said Saturday that his current visit to Algeria would be an occasion to discuss several key questions relating to the African continent.
Speaking to the press, following his arrival in Algiers, Faki Mahamat expressed “joy to be in Algeria,” an AU founding country, and affirmed that the Pan-African organization is in an “important phase,” marked by the launch of a reform process, several years ago.”
During the 31st Summit held in January in Addis Ababa, “we have taken extremely important decisions, notably about the launch of the African Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA), which will be the theme of the coming summit, planned on 21st March in Kigali (Rwanda), the African passport and air transport within the continent,” added Faki Mahamat.
Those three decisions constitute, for him, “key projects for Africa,” adding that that it was “quite normal that I come to Algeria to discuss with the government”.
All the heads of State and Government are invited to the Summit, and have to sign the agreement on the CFTA.
“Today, the African agenda includes integration and chiefly knowing the African continent, in addition to the African Union reform both in its financial and institutional aspect, besides the questions of peace and security in Africa which represent major concerns,” underlined Faki Mahamat.
