(English) Algerian-Austrian political consultations: Joint willingness to promote bilateral cooperation

ALGIERS- Algeria and Austria committed, during the political consultations held in Vienna, to promote the bilateral cooperation in various fields of activity “in order to raise it to the level of the excellent political
relations that have always existed between the two countries,” the Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad said in a statement.

According to the statement, the Algerian-Austrian political consultations were held on 7 February under the co-chairmanship of General Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad Amar Belani, on a working visit to Vienna, and General Secretary of Austria’s Ministry for European and International Affairs Peter Launsky-Tiffenthal.

This session of political consultations enabled the two sides to “discuss the state of the relations and exchange views on international and regional issues of common interest,” said the statement.

At the bilateral level, it was agreed to “promote the cooperation in various fields of activity, notably those of transport, agriculture and vocational training, as well as the Austrian direct investments in Algeria, in order to raise it up to the level of the excellent political relations which have always existed between the two countries and their respective potentials, at a time when they are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations,” said the source.

As regards the international issues, the two sides, which exchanged views on the latest developments of the crises, notably those relating to their direct neighborhood (Ukraine, Western Sahara, Mali, Libya, Sahel, Middle East ), “ stressed the necessity of privileging the peaceful settlement of the disagreements and abiding by the international law, and discussed the challenges related to the fight against terrorism, disarmament and the migration issues,” according to the source.

Belani has also talks with the Foreign and European Policy Adviser to the Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria Barbara Kaudel-Jensen with whom he exchanged views on the ways to consolidate and diversify the bilateral cooperation. The two sides agreed to maintain high level political contacts and to continue dialogue on topical international issues, the ministry said.

Belani held also talks with the Chairman of North Africa Parliamentary Friendship Group at the Austrian National Council Nico Marchetti.

During this meeting, which enabled the two officials to underlined the complementary character of the parliamentary diplomacy Amar Belani informed his interlocutor of the forthcoming installation of Algeria-Austria parliamentary friendship group as part of the current legislature 2021-2026, said the source.
