Western Sahara: Ross grateful to Algeria for support to UN process

ALGIERS- Personal envoy of UN Secretary General for Western Sahara Christopher Ross expressed Monday in Algiers his gratitude to Algeria for its support to the UN process aiming at finding a solution to Western Sahara conflict in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council.
“Today, I was received by President Bouteflika as part of my mission to facilitate negotiations between the parties concerned by the conflict in Western Sahara (Morocco and Polisario Front), “Ross said after the audience granted by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
“The President renewed Algeria’s support as a neighboring country to the UN process and I am grateful for that,” he declared.
Moreover, the UN envoy said he had with President Bouteflika, “useful exchanges” on the latest developments on the Western Sahara question, as well as the “upcoming meetings.”
“UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon asked me to intensify efforts to finding a solution in accordance with the successive resolutions of the UN Security Council,” he stressed, adding that President Bouteflika “encouraged me in that direction and assured me the support of Algeria.”
Ross also expressed Ban Ki-moon’s wish to visit the region in the coming months in order to “make a contribution to the quest for a solution to this conflict that has lasted too long.”
