President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika said that the deceased was “a political leader with unparalleled human values and political acumen
ALGERS- Tributes of recognition and admiration have been paid to the memory of Hocine Aït Ahmed, historical leader of the Revolution and leader of FFS party, since the announcement of his demise Wednesday in Lausanne of Switzerland.
President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika said that the deceased was “a political leader with unparalleled human values and political acumen” who stamped “a chapter of the history of Algerian activism and marked the history of all liberation movements worldwide.”
In his condolences message, the Head of the State dubbed him “one of Algeria’s great figures, an eminent activist and a peerless historical leader.”
For the President, Algeria just “lost a leader of the calibre of Hocine Ait Ahmed whose human values and political acumen stamped “a chapter of the history of Algerian activism and marked the history of all liberation movements worldwide.”
“Leading figure of the Algerian Revolution, the deceased joined, in the prime of his life, the Algerian People Party (PPA) and the Movement for the Triumph of Democratic Liberties (MTLD), where he made a name for himself rapidly while showing a lively intelligence. Thanks to these qualities, he managed to catch the admiration of his companions who joined him to elbow a way on the path of liberation, through reflection and search for the best means to fight against the French occupying forces,” Bouteflika added in his message.
“”I cannot console myself for the loss of this man, faithful to his country, concerned about the unity of his nation, brave in his positions, attached to his principles, affable and constructive in his criticism, and worthy in his opposition to the some officials as he challenged their governance and management method. A man who refused to get involved in compromises in the face of the country’s crucial issues,” the President wrote in his message.
President Bouteflika mentions the courage, bravery and the charisma of the man “mainly the Special Organization (OS) he had chaired during the most painful moments and his courageous positions and wise opinions which enlightened several meetings and international conferences.”
He also cited the creation of the Maghreb Bureau in Cairo where he greatly contributed to present the Arab countries of North Africa, in addition to the skyjacking by the French army of the plane carrying him and his companions in an unprecedented piracy operation, in addition to his role in the provisional Government in which he became a member while being incarcerated, and in the opposition, where he was an undisputed icon.
“Neither me, nor the Algerian people and nor history will forget Hocine Ait Ahmed who was devoted to his country and remained faithful to his people and honoured the oath. Algeria has lost a great figure that fulfilled with abnegation and dedication his duty as an activist and mujaheed (veteran),” president Bouteflika affirmed.
