ANVERS (Belguim)-Algeria has engaged in discussions with the Belgian bus manufacturer Van Hool to meet the specific needs of Algiers in terms of collective public transport,
announced Monday in Anvers (north of Brussels) Minister of Public Works and Transport Boudjemaa Talai.
“We have engaged in discussions with Van Hool executives,” he stated on the sidelines of a visit to the plant of Van Hool, the main supplier of public transport buses in Belgium.
“We are currently studying the public transport system on specific site and Van Hool’s experience has always been successful worldwide. This is what we want to do in Algiers, particularly for some routes that are not served by the metro or the tramway,” he said.
To meet the growing needs of cities in terms of environment protection, Van Hool has developed a large range of modern and non-polluting buses, namely the Euro IV gasoil engine, GNG (Green natural gas), trolleybuses and the hybrid bus with fuel cell.
During his visit to the manufacturer’s production located in Lierre (Anvers), the minister spoke at length with the leaders of this company who showcased the complete range of their urban and interurban buses likely to interest Algeria and meet the future challenges posed by the public collective bus in the capital.
The Public Works and Transport minister said he “was happy” and “satisfied” with his visit to Belgium, which led to the “consolidation” of traditional ties between the two countries.
“I am very satisfied because we are in contact with professionals and very happy about the friendship relation between the two countries that has resulted in a series of agreements inked today,” stressed Talai.
