ALGIERS- President of the Pan-African Parliament Nkodo Dang hailed, Tuesday in Algiers, Algeria’s political, economic and security efforts on the African scene.
During the audience granted to him by Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (lower house of Parliament) Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa, Dang praised Algeria for its efforts for the restoration of peace, said the statement.
Dang also hailed Algeria’s positions regarding the right of Sahrawi people to self-determination, adding that the Pan-African Parliament as well as all Africans who struggled against colonization “cannot accept that a part of the continent remains under occupation.”
He underlined that “Algeria signed in January a protocol amending the Constitutive Act of the Pan-African Parliament and will adopt it in accordance with the provisions of its amended Constitution,” said the Lower House’s statement.
Dang expressed gratitude to Algeria’s substantial contributions to financing African institutions and congratulated it on the adoption of its amended Constitution, which “shows that Algeria is a State that respects the rule of law,” he stressed.
He also hailed women’s representation at the Algerian Parliament, which “constitutes a proud for women in Africa as well as in other countries around the world,” he said.
As regards the problems in the continent, Dang said that the “Pan-African Parliament aspires to contribute to achieving continental integration and geographical, coping with the energy and climate change challenges and developing research tools and human resources training.”
Dang also hailed Algeria’s experience in “the protection of human rights and good governance, which would be useful for the entire continent in the resolution of conflicts, which often result from bad management or changes after elections.”
He also underlined Algeria’s commitment to “helping the continent fight against terrorism and drug trafficking through its logistic aid to African peacekeeping forces.”
Dang hailed Algeria’s efforts in “Mali and Libya to help these two countries solve their respective crises through dialogue without interfering in their internal affairs.”
