Mr Attaf holds talks in New York with several counterparts
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf held bilateral talks with several of his counterparts from brotherly countries in New York on Saturday, as part of his participation in the High-level Week of the 79th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.
Attaf held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Badr Abdelatty, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Al-Safadi, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan, Ramadan Mohamed Abdallah Gok.
Attaf’s meeting with his Egyptian counterpart provided an opportunity to coordinate and consult on the main issues and causes on the GA agenda, in addition to the ways to pool the efforts of Arab countries to further support the Palestinian cause at the UN level, according to the same source, which stated that the two ministers discussed certain bilateral and continental events.
The FM and the Jordanian Deputy PM focused on developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as in the Middle East region in general, in the face of the continuing genocidal war in the Gaza Strip and the stubbornness of the Israeli occupation, which continues to escalate on several fronts.
The two parties also discussed ways to enable the Palestinian cause to gain further support internationally during this GA session, as well as prospects for strengthening Algeria-Jordan relations.
In addition, the meeting with the Foreign Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo was devoted to developments in the crisis in the eastern region of this sister country, and efforts to resolve it by peaceful means under the Security Council’s approach.
The two parties also examined the prospects for strengthening bilateral cooperation, and exchanged views on issues discussed within the AU.
Together with the Foreign Minister of South Sudan, Attaf reviewed developments in this brotherly country, as well as how Algeria can support the process of maintaining peace and reinforcing stability, both through the consolidation of bilateral cooperation in the field of human resources training, as well as through multilateral frameworks arising from Algeria’s position as a member of the UN Security Council and the African Union’s Ad Hoc High-Level Committee on South Sudan (C5).
