ALGIERS- The Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel reaffirmed, Tuesday, Algeria’s support to the peace process sponsored by the United Nations and to its efforts aimed at drawing the antagonists in Libya closer.
On this occasion, Messahel expressed to the new Special Representative of the Un Secretary General for this country, Martin Kobler, his wishes for success in his mission, and reiterated Algeria’s support to Kobler’s efforts aimed at reaching a sustainable political solution that preserves Libya’s territorial integrity and unity.
In his speech given Tuesday in Algiers, at the opening of the 7th ordinary Ministerial meeting of Libya’s neighbouring countries, Messahel reiterated “Algeria’s unfailing support” to proposals aimed at accelerating the settlement of the conflict in Libya, expressing Algeria’s wish to see “the Libyan brothers overcome, through their foresight and their firm determination, the disagreements, and to prevail their country’s supreme interest to reach an agreement for the creation of a national unity government.”
“In the absence of a consensual solution and a political settlement, the situation in this neighbouring country could deteriorate in the sole interest of terrorist groups,” warned Messahel.
“The Libyans are called, today, to find themselves a solution to the crisis affecting their country,” said the Minister.
