ALGIERS- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel reiterated Sunday in Rome Algeria’s consistent position for a political settlement of the Libyan crisis, allowing the formation of a national unity government.
In his speech at the international Conference on Libya, Messahel underlined, according to a communiqué of Foreign Affairs Ministry, “ the consistent position of Algeria on the settlement of this crisis through political solutions, based on the respect of the principles of sovereignty, non-interference, territorial integrity, national unity of Libya and the cohesion of its people, leading to the urgent need to form a national unity government, based in Tripoli, to fill the institutional gap in Libya.”
Messahel pointed out, on this occasion, that “terrorism and its criminal ties feed and spread on the absence of a capable, strong and just State,” adding that “this is the reason for which he insisted on the signing of a political agreement and the urgent need to form a national unity government, the only way that can allow facing the political, economic and security challenges.”
He called on all the Libyans to monopolize “the political solution, and to take a firm hold of their future by transcending their disagreements and divergences, to make the supreme interest of the Libyan people prevail.”
He urged the “international community and the United Nations to support these efforts of reconstructing the State and improving the socio-economic conditions of the Libyan people.”
