ALGIERS – Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel has reiterated Sunday in Algiers, Algeria’s consistent stance in favour of a political solution to the crisis in Libya, recalling its
continuous efforts and its rejection of any foreign interference, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a communiqué.
Following an audience granted to a large Libyan delegation representing the command of Al-Bunyan al-Marsous operation, comprising senior officers, led by General Mohamed Al Ghasri, Messahel reaffirmed “Algeria’s consistent stance in favour of a political solution to the crisis in Libya.”
The minister also recalled Algeria’s continuous efforts, rejecting any foreign interference, for the resolution of the Libyan crisis, said the Ministry’s communiqué.
Libyan delegation’s visit, which is part of the consultations on the latest developments of the situation in Libya, particularly at the political and security levels, comes after the different discussions held in Algeria with Libyan politicians, MPs and other Libyan representatives, in the light of Algeria’s efforts to promote inter-Libyan dialogue, said the statement.
“The discussions focused mainly on ways and means to strengthen the inclusive dialogue to reach a consensual political solution and national reconciliation,” added the communiqué.
The members of the Libyan delegation, who outlined the military operations and restoration of control over the city of Sirte, hailed “Algeria’s active and consistent role in favour of a political solution, in accordance with the Libyan political accord of 17 December 2015,” said the Ministry’s communiqué.
In this regard, Messahel praised the “achievements made in counterterrorism operations in Sirte, Benghazi and in other parts in Libya,” concluded the communiqué.
