Sofia-President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Vassil Valtchanov, captain of the ship “Breza” , delivered a secret supply of arms to the national liberation Army (NLA) in May 1960.
The message was read by Algeria’s ambassador in Bulgaria, Mrs. Latifa Benazza on the occasion of this celebration, at a ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Central Military Club in Sofia.
An official award was presented in 2004 by President Bouteflika to the captain Vassil Valtchanov for the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of the war of national liberation.
Mr. Valtchanov said in his first book, called “Secret weapons delivery,” published in 2011 and translated into Arabic and French, about his course in 1960 and 1961, its arms supplies to the NLA and those carried out by his compatriot, Luben Guenov, through their vessels “Breza” and Bulgaria. ”
Algeria takes an important place in his second book, published in 2015, devoted to his long experience at the merchant marine.
In addition to his valuable contribution to the glorious revolution for the liberation of Algeria, captain Valtchanov is one of the architects of the development of Bulgarian-Algerian relations and a founder with Grigor Kratchmarski, another great friend of Algeria, of the Association for friendship between Algeria and Bulgaria in October 1994.
Finally, the centenary of Mr. Valtchnov, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the war of national liberation, was celebrated by many Bulgarian high political and military figures, Algeria’s friends and members of diplomatic corps, accredited in Bulgaria.
