ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika sent Saturday a message of condolences to President of Cuba’s Council of State and Ministers Raul Castro Ruz, following the death of the Cuban leader Fidel Castro, in which he affirmed that this death is a “great loss” for the Algerian people.
“I learned with a great sadness of the death of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro Ruz. I extend, on this day of mourning, to the Cuban people and to his family, on behalf of the Algerian people and government and on my own behalf, our sincere condolences and assure you of our compassion and solidarity,” said President Bouteflika in his message.
“With his death, I am personally losing a friend and a companion of more than half a century. It is also a great loss for the Algerian people who have a particular relation with El Commandante, made of respect, admiration and mutual affection,” he added.
“A relation, added the President of the Republic, which also finds its singularity in the sharing of some pages of the history of the glorious national liberation struggle and in which El Lider Maximo played a leading role alongside the Algerian people.”
“This companionship of struggle has strengthened after the independence of Algeria through solidarity and support to the reconstruction of our country ruined by a devastating colonial war,” underlined President Bouteflika.
President of the Republic underlined that “with the death of Fidel Castro, a page of our contemporary history has been turned,” pointing out that the deceased “was in the heart of all the events which marked the 20th century.”
“I salute him as an authentic defender of the values of peace, respect and of national sovereignty and of his uncompromising struggle for the rights of peoples to self-determination,” added the Head of State.
