ALGIERS- Minister of Environment and Renewable Energies Fatma Zohra Zerouati on Tuesday in Bonn, Germany, reiterated Algeria’s position in favour of the implementation of Paris climate agreement,
calling on the signatory countries to abide by their commitment to cutting greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming, the ministry said in a statement.
The minister, attending the high-level African environment ministers meeting on climate change, as part of the international summit dealing with the issue (COP23) hosted by Bonn (November 7-21), expressed Algeria’s refusal to renegotiate Paris Agreement.
Zerouati called on the developed nations to support developing countries through technological transfer and financial assistance.
The minister reiterated Algeria’s pledge to cut, by seven percent, greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change by 2030, a rate that may reach 22% if Algeria receives the required financial and technological support.
In this respect, the minister met with the head of the international governmental body managing climate change issues, which is preparing for the sixth assessment report on the matter.
The meeting, also attended by experts working for the international body, focused on its funding and how to involve researchers in the assessment process.
