World Cities Day celebrated in Liverpool: Algeria guest of honour

LIVERPOOL – Minister of Housing, Urbanism and the City Abdelwahid Temmar participated on Wednesday in Liverpool in the official ceremony celebrating the World Cities Day, as a guest of honour.
The minister, who was accompanied by Algeria’s Ambassador to London Amar Abba, has outlined President Abdelaziz Bouteflika policies on housing and the strategy adopted by the government, which aims at eradicating old buildings, said the Algerian delegation at the celebrations.
On the sidelines of the ceremonies, Temmar met with UN Under-Secretary-General, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‐Habitat) Maimunah Mohd Sharif. Their discussions focused on cooperation and coordination between the two parties. The UN Executive plans to visit Algeria, the source added.
During his discussions with the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, the minister set out the outcomes of Algeria’s efforts in the sector of housing and cities management, notably adapting laws to international commitments, like the Kyoto Convention.
Maimunah Mohd Sharif has praised the major achievements of Algeria in the sector.
The World Cities Day on every October 31st has been celebrated this year under the theme of “Building Sustainable and Resilient Cities.” The overall World Cities Day theme is “Better City, Better Life.”
