DAVOS-KLOSTERS – Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel presented on Tuesday in Davos (Switzerland) the successful Algerian experience of national reconciliation, noting that the Algerian peace process,
“has been concretized through the law on civil harmony and the Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation.”
In his speech at the Davos Forum, the Minister stressed that the Algerian peace process “has been given practical expression in the law on civil harmony and the Charter for Peace and Reconciliation, both driven by the values cherished by Algerian people, namely tolerance, moderation, forgiveness, solidarity, mutual aid, a strong sense of their common destiny and a strong commitment to national unity and cohesion.”
Messahel said that the law on civil harmony, proposed in 1999, by President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to the Algerian people, “helping all those who had engaged in terrorist groups and had gone astray to return to the society.”
“This law has allowed thousands of these people to return to their families and preserve thousands of other lives,” he added.
With regard to the Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation, voted by referendum in 2005, the Algerian top diplomat said that it has enabled the country to “definitely regain peace, stability and security.”
