WASHINGTON (U.S.A)- Algeria is a “capable” partner of the United States and it plays “a constructive role in promoting regional stability,” said Thursday the U.S. department of States.
“Algeria is a strategically located and capable partner with which the United States has strong diplomatic, law enforcement, and security cooperation,” said a fact sheet on Algeria, published Thursday in Washington.
In this regard, the department of State notes that “Algeria is an active member of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF),” and it co-chairs the Sahel working group of the Global Counterterrorism forum, and occasionally provides logistical support to peacekeeping operations of the United Nations and the African Union.
The U.S. department of State also underlined the importance of the frequent political and military dialogues between Algiers and Washington.
In this regard, the document recalled the exchange of visits in the last two years such as the strategic dialogue between the two countries, held in Washington in 2015, and the visits of high political and military officials in Algiers in 2016.
On the economic level, the department of State added that Algeria is one of the top U.S. trading partners in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The U.S. “encourages Algeria to make necessary changes to achieve economic diversification, and accede to the World Trade Organization,” said the U.S. department of State in its fact sheet.
