NAMUR (Belgium)- Documentary film “Fi rassi rond-point” (Roundabout in My Head) by Algerian filmmaker Hassen Ferhani and short film “Kindil el Bahr” by French-Algerian Damien Ounouri will be in official competition at the 31st Francophone Film Festival (FIFF), to be held from 30 September to 6 October in Namur (Belgium), said the event’s organizers.
The two works will be presented in the international selection in which films from Tunisia, Canada and France will be competing.
Made in 2015, Roundabout in My Head (101 minutes) relates the daily life of workers in the slaughterhouses of Algiers.
The documentary won many distinctions, including the Grand Prize of the 7th “Filmer le travail” Festival in Poitiers (France) and the prize of the jury of the 8th International Documentary Film Festival (FIDADOC) in Morocco.
The short film “Kindil el Bahr,” based on a script co-written by the filmmaker and actor Adila Bendimred, the film deals, while drawing inspiration from the codes of the fantasy cinema, with women’s conditions through the story of Nafissa, beaten to death by a group of men on a beach.
Welcomed by critics in Algeria and abroad, the film was screened in May at the Directors’ Fortnight in 69th Cannes Film Festival and recently at the 14th Film Meetings of Bejaia, held in September.
