Trade minister kicks off Algeria Week Expo in Washington

WASHINGTON- Trade Minister Said Djellab kicked off on Monday in Washington Algeria’s Economic and Cultural Week. The event is meant to showcase Algeria’s history, heritage and its economic and tourist potential.
For the Week opening ceremony, a folk troupe from Setif played traditional music on the esplanade of the Ronald Reagan Building, in the presence of Ambassador Joan Polaschik Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Sarah Kemp Acting Deputy Under-Secretary for International Trade, authorities of District of Columbia and Algeria’s ambassador to Washington Madjid Bouguerra.
Later, the minister inaugurated an exhibition that sees the participation of 40 national companies.
The Expo encompasses three various sections dedicated to industry, craft industry and tourism with a single goal, the promotion of “made in Algeria” in the electrical and electronic industries, household appliances, food and craft industries such as ceramics, carpets, clothing and jewelry.
Condor and Iris, two Algerian leading household appliance producers are taking part in the event. The Algerian Office of Tourism (ONAT) is also part of the event in order to promote destination Algeria.
The Algerian Economic and Cultural Week represents a huge opportunity for Algerian companies to open up to the US market, whose access is expected to grow as a result of the renewal of the generalized US preferential system.
