Solidarity club between North Africa Red Crescent Societies to be created soon

ALGIERS – Chairwoman of the Algerian Red Crescent (CRA) Saida Benhabyles said Thursday in Algiers that the objective of the meeting on the Libyan crisis repercussions was the creation of a Joint Club of North Africa’s Red Crescent societies.

“We aspire to create a joint club of Red Crescent Societies of the region in order to intervene effectively,” she indicated, on the sidelines of a study day on “the consequences of the Libyan crisis in the region.”
The Algerian Red Crescent’s Head added that this Club would be the first ever created in the world.
According to Benhabyles, the role of this Club would primarily be “to awaken the consciences of the belligerents and all the parties with the power of making decisions to spare civilians from war and the bloodshed”.

“We will attempt to convince the relevant parties that the preservation of human lives and dignity is above all consideration and interest,” she said, recalling that the origin of “the chaotic situation in Libya is the NATO countries military intervention back in 2011.”

The Club activities will be inspired by the doctrine of the International Federation of Red Crosses and Red Crescents, putting humanity at the heart of every humanitarian action.
Addressing CRA’s efforts to serve the Libyans since the deterioration of the situation in that country, Benhabyles said Algeria was “the only country” that had been able to offer aid directly to the Libyan people.
