Peace agreement in Mali: Malian President hails Algeria's efforts, pays tribute to President Bouteflika

NEW YORK (UNITED NATIONS)-President of Mali Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, hailed in New York Algeria’s efforts, leader of the mediation for the settlement of the crisis in the north of Mali and paid tribute to President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika for his involvement in the restoration of peace and reconciliation in the Sahel countries.
“Part of this dynamic (inter-Malian dialogue), the initiative I took to engage the Malian government in inter-Malian negotiations in Algiers with UN mediation under the auspices of Algeria which I hail its efforts and pay tribute to its President our brother and elder, Abdelaziz Bouteflika,” Ibrahim Boubacar Keita said in his speech before the General Assembly of the UN, reported Tuesday by the media.
The Malian President, on this occasion, reminded the audience that the Government of and authority Mali have always complied with “relevant resolutions” of the United Nations Security Council, decisions of ECOWAS, the AU, OIC and the Non-Aligned Movement, which had encouraged the inter-Malian inclusive dialogue.
“After eight months of discussion with our brothers from the northern regions who had taken up arms, I am particularly pleased to present the agreement for peace and reconciliation in Mali (issued after the dialogue of Algiers), whose signing was completed in Bamako June 20, 2015,” the Head of State of Mali added.
Stressing that the implementation of the agreement is the “major challenge of the peace process,” President Keita reiterated “the commitment of the Government of Mali to respect all its commitments under the Agreement.”
In this respect, he said that the Monitoring Committee of the Agreement, which began its work the day after the signature, has already adopted its rules of procedure and implementation schedule, set up four subcommittees, reviewed the functioning of financing options and works to smooth out the issue the representation of movement.
“For its part, the Government of Mali has developed and submitted to the Monitoring Committee, a comprehensive plan of action for implementation of the agreement and an emergency plan for the interim period” the President of Mali affirmed.
