APS : SUNDAY 25 MARCH 2018
ALGIERS- At least 100 participants from 53 countries pays will participate in the 6th International Conference on “the Right of Peoples to Resistance: the Case of Sahrawi People,”
scheduled for 30-31 March in Algiers.
The participants will demand the rapid implementation of the United Nations resolution 1514 on the peoples’ right to self-determination, said Sunday the chairman of the Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with Sahrawi People (CNASPS), Said Ayachi.
The conference will bring together Sahrawi delegations from refugee camps and the occupied Sahrawi territories, more than one hundred participants from 53 African, Latin American, Arab and European countries, in addition to representatives of civil society, politicians, national and local elected representatives, academics, intellectuals and journalists, Ayachi told a press conference held at the Sahrawi Information Centre.
Algiers conference, co-organized by CNASPS and the Embassy of Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in Algeria, aims at breaking the media blackout imposed by the Moroccan occupying authorities on Sahrawi people in the occupied territories and encouraging the media to visit the occupied territories.
The opening ceremony will be chaired by the Sahrawi President and Secretary General of Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali.
It will be an opportunity for the participants to reaffirm the right of Sahrawi people to self-determination and their right to struggle against the Moroccan occupation, said Ayachi.
The participants will also demand effective and multifaceted humanitarian aid to Sahrawi refugees, as well as the rapid implementation of the Security Council’s resolutions, which call for a fair referendum on self-determination, under the supervision of the UN.
It will be also an opportunity to denounce “the repeated violations of human rights by the Moroccan occupying forces in the occupied Sahrawi territories,” as well as the recent discovery of mass graves containing remains of Sahrawis killed by the Moroccan Army, said Ayachi.
These violations have been noticed and reported by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch (HRW), Frontline, RF Kennedy Centre, the UN Secretary General’s Special Rapporteur on torture, Euro-deputy Rapporteur Charles Tannock, the US Department of State in its reports of 2012, 2013 and 2014, as well as by international lawyers, recalled Ayachi
