ALGIERS-Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama on Sunday hailed Algeria’s “key” role in the establishment of peace and security in Africa, notably its mediation in the resolution of the Malian crisis.
“We welcome our brotherly country Algeria for the role it plays in peacemaking in the African continent, notably its mediation in the Malian crisis,” stated Onyeama during the works of the 4th Algeria-Nigeria High Joint Cooperation Committee.
Algeria and Nigeria will work under the African Union (AU) to develop mechanisms for “further autonomy” in the resolution of conflicts in Africa, stressing that the Algerian and Nigerian Heads of State seek to “settle all conflicts in the continent by 2020 in accordance with AU’s Agenda 2063.”
As regards economy, Onyeama said that there are three “major” projects both countries are preparing, namely the Trans-Saharan road, the optic fibre network and a gas pipeline, stressing that commercial and economic cooperation “can be further enhanced.”
“We share the same values and we are willing to enhance bilateral and continental cooperation for the benefit of our peoples,” stressed the source.
Onyeama is on a visit to Algeria at the invitation of Foreign Minister, Abdelkader Messahel under the 4th Algeria-Nigeria High Joint Cooperation Committee.
