WASHINGTON (United States)- Algeria and the United States are to hold their fifth discussions on Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) on April 24, in Algiers, Algeria’s embassy in Washington said Wednesday.
The US delegation will be led by Daniel Mullaney, the Assistant US Trade Representative for Europe and the Middle East, according to the source.
The meeting’s agenda includes many economic issues, such as business climate, Algeria’s membership of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and American companies’ access to the national market.
The bilateral meeting will also address investments in agriculture and pharmaceutical industry and the ways to boost economic cooperation between the two countries.
The two sides stressed the good quality of relations between Algeria and the United States, reiterating their will to continue consultations to promote their business relations,” the source said.
During fourth Algeria-US discussions on TIFA in 2016 in Washington, the United States reiterated commitment to assisting Algeria in the WTC membership.
Signed in 2001, the TIFA agreement instituted an annual economic dialogue to step up business relations and trade between the companies of the two countries.
In 2016, Algeria became again eligible to the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), which provides duty-free treatment to goods from designated beneficiary countries and territories.
Algeria first adhered to the system in 2004, however, only few Algerian products have had access to the US market under the GSP system.
