ALGIERS- The 2nd International Conference of the African Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), members of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) kicked off Monday,
in Algiers, with the participation of about 300 representatives from 30 African countries, who will examine themes relating to the migration issue in Africa.
The official kick-off ceremony was chaired by Sheikh Khaled Bentounes, guide of the Tariqa Alawiya and president of honor of the international Sufism association Alawiya, initiator of the idea “Living together,” decreed by the United Nations as a world day.
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of president of the organizing Committee of the International African NGOs Conference, members of the ECOSOC, president of the African Parliament of the Civil Society as well as representatives of the civil society.
This event was also marked by the presence of representatives of the Ministries of Interior and Local Authorities, of Foreign Affairs, as well as heads of Foreign Affairs Committee of the people’s National Assembly and parliamentarians.
Held under the slogan “All together for a prosperous Africa and the world that we want,” this conference takes place in a particular context where Africa is facing several challenges, namely the fight against poverty, unemployment, social inequalities, global warming, irregular migrations, brain drain and capital flight.
It is in this spirit that the organizers will pool the actions and resources of the state, economic and civil society players of this continent to define a joint strategy to deal with the migration crisis by determining the roles and responsibilities of each of the players.
This conference will allow, added the source, the creation of a platform aimed at establishing a permanent and structured dialogue within the African civil society and making the voice of Africa heard.
Algiers Conference also aims to “strengthen the exchanges and inter-State cooperation between the African countries and in the area South-South.”
During three days, the participants will focus on the elaboration of recommendations likely to guarantee “ the durability of regulations as well as development strategies and policies.”
