Messahel, Tunisian FM discuss latest development in Libya

CAIRO (Egypt)- Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel on Saturday, in Cairo, discussed the latest developments in Libya with Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui.
The two sides, met on the sidelines of 10th meeting of Libya’s neighbouring countries held in Cairo, reiterated “support to dialogue between the Libyan belligerents to reach a consensual political solution allowing our brother Libyan people to preserve their sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and create their institutions so as to strengthen the fight against terrorism as part of national reconciliation.”
The two sides also reiterated the call for all Libyan parties to “ensure that their country’s higher interest prevails and to support the political process to reach a settlement allowing them to implement the political agreement concluded on 17 December 2015”.
Messahel emphasized “Algeria’s commitment to backing inter-Libyan dialogue under the aegis of the United Nations.”
He praised the “role of the neighbouring countries in encouraging Libyan belligerents to overcome the difficulties hampering the implementation of the political agreement.”
The tenth Foreign Ministers meeting opened Saturday in Cairo, Egypt, with the participation of Abdelkader Messahel and the Foreign Ministers of Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan, Chad and Niger.
