ALGIERS- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel received in Algiers a large delegation of municipal officials, led by the head of the Municipal Council of Misrata, Mohamed Chtiwi,
as well as MPs representing that region, the ministry of Foreign Affairs said Monday in a statement.
The visit, part of “consultations on the latest developments in Libya, comes following visits Libyan politicians and MPs have paid to Algeria, in the light of Algeria’s efforts in support of inter-Libyan dialogue,” the statement said.
The discussions mainly focused on “ways and methods to give a fresh impetus to the consensual political solution, through an inclusive inter-Libyan dialogue and national reconciliation,” the statement said.
Messahel “reiterated Algeria’s position, which favours a political settlement to the Libyan crisis, mentioning the consistent efforts (made in this respect),” and rejecting foreign interference in the internal affairs of that country.
The members of the Libyan delegation, on their part, “praised Algeria’s active and continuous role in favour of a political solution as part of Libya’s political agreement of 17 December 2015,” the statement said.
