ALGIERS – Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel has reaffirmed, Tuesday in Algiers, Algeria’s commitment to continuing its support to the United Nations process for the political resolution of the crisis in Libya, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
Following his discussions with a large Libyan delegation, representing a coalition of Libyan political parties, led by Ali Bashir Zouik, Messahel reiterated “Algeria’s commitment to continuing its support to the UN-process for the resolution of the Libyan crisis,” said the statement.
The Minister also recalled “Algeria’s consistent stance in favour of a political solution to the crisis in Libya, through an inclusive inter-Libyan dialogue, without any foreign interference,” added the statement.
The discussions, which are part of consultations with Libyan parties, personalities and leaders on the latest developments in the situation in Libya, especially at the political and security levels, as well as ways and means to strengthen the UN peace process, follow the different discussions held in line with Algeria’s efforts to promote an inclusive inter-Libyan dialogue.
For their part, the members of the Libyan delegation, who hailed Algeria’s efforts in favour of a political solution in accordance with the Libyan agreement of 17 December 2015, outlined the current situation in Libya, added the Ministry’s statement.
