NOUAKCHOTT- Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel said, Thursday in Nouakchott, that his discussions with Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz were “fruitful” and centred on the special relations between Algeria and Mauritania and the prospects for their development.
In a statement to APS following the audience, Messahel said that the discussions focused mainly on the special relations between the two countries.
In this regard, the Foreign minister underlined the achievements made since the 18th session of the Algerian-Mauritanian High Joint Commission held in Algiers in December 2016.
Messahel said that trading between the two countries is steadily growing, adding that the opening of a permanent exhibition of Algerian products in Mauritania and a border crossing between the two countries linking Tindouf to Zouerate would contribute to strengthening relations between the populations of border regions as well as economic exchanges between the two sister countries.
During the audience, Messahel handed over a message from President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika to his Mauritanian counterpart.
The Foreign minister added that he discussed with President Ould Abdelaziz African Union’s agenda and the situation in the region, especially the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime and illegal migration, adding that such issues require greater coordination between the countries of the region for the strengthening of security.
“The discussions were very fruitful,” said Messahel, adding that the Mauritanian president asked him to hand over a letter to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
Messahel’s visit to Mauritania is the first stage of his tour in some Sahel countries, namely Chad, Mali and Niger.
