BRUSSELS- The Algerian diplomacy which has gained a “significant” experience in mediation, identifies its actions with “principles,” “ideals” and “not with limited national agendas,” affirmed Tuesday, in Brussels,
Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra.
The Algerian diplomacy “has accumulated a significant experience,” he told APS on the sidelines of the international conference on mediation, stressing that this “credible and realistic diplomacy acts serenely and often identifies its action with principles, ideals and not with limited national agendas.”
Underlining that the country has “55 years of experience” in mediation, Lamamra said that “Algeria’s mediations are sought for and are often successful.”
“The mediations of Algeria have managed to combine the credibility of the experience with the determination, willingness and also the trust that all the parties place in Algeria,” he added.
The minister underlined the different mediations led by Algeria, some of which led to the independence of old colonies, helped saving human lives after hijacking and even other mediations in more complicated situations like the hostages of the American embassy in Teheran whose solution, he added, “involved significant resources of imagination and creativity.”
He also emphasized the historic mediation led in 1975 by late President Houari Boumediene and current President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika between Iran and Iraq on the occasion of the holding, in Algiers, of the 1st Summit of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
“Two major summits were simultaneously held in Algiers. With our leaders’ genius, we both strengthened the solidarity ties between the oil exporting countries and settled the major issue between two key countries of the organization,” he added.
