ALGIERS-Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Tieman Hubert Coulibaly on Sunday hailed Algeria’s willingness to help his country draft a law on national consensus based on the Algerian national reconciliation.
“Algeria expressed willingness to contribute to any reflection likely to help Mali implement this presidential will and draft the law on national consensus,” Coulibaly told the press following his talks with Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel.
According to Coulibaly, the Malian president referred to the experience of Algeria in national reconciliation, notably the law on civil concord and the process implemented in Algeria, “called today one of the safest countries in the world.”
For the Malian FM, the preservation of the national unity, cohesion and the Malian territory “require a consensus between the communities living in the same space.”
The Malian FM said he discussed with Messahel security-related issues in the sub-region, achievements in the implementation of the inter-Malian signed in 2015 and economic cooperation prospects between the two countries.
For his part, Messahel said he discussed with his Malian counterpart the “strong and historical” relations between the two countries, and emphasized “permanent consultation” to further strengthen them.
Besides, Messahel said he exchanged views with his counterpart on the progress made in the implementation of the Peace Agreement in Mali resulting from the Algiers process.
As regards economic cooperation, Messahel referred to Algeria’s participation as a guest of honour in the 12th Bamako International Exhibition (FEBAK) scheduled for 13-29 January 2018, calling it “a very strong signal and common willingness to work together.”
Security situation in the sub-region, notably counterterrorism, criminality and illegal immigration were at the heart of our talks, said Messahel, who underlined the need to “coordinate efforts and remain vigilant to address these phenomena.”
