BAMAKO (Mali)- Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel reiterated in Bamako, on Saturday, Algeria’s commitment and determination to continue the multifaceted cooperation with Mali and support its efforts to speed
up the settlement of the crisis in that country.
“On behalf of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who attaches great importance to the settlement of the many-year crisis in Mali, a country dear to his heart, I would like to solemnly reiterate Algeria’s commitment and determination to continue the multifaceted cooperation with Mali “to assist it in its efforts aiming at speeding up the settlement of the crisis,” Messahel said in a regional conference on security in the Sahel and West Africa, being held in the Malian capital.
The minister said that his participation in the conference “shows Algeria’s commitment to support our Malian brother people and the other African sub-region countries.
It also shows “Algeria’s will to contribute to an efficient fight against terrorism and organized cross border crime and rapid eradication of those scourges, which hamper any step for a full and definitive restoration of peace, security and stability (in the region) and undermine the development of our immediate vicinity.”
“Mali is our sister and neighbour country which, over the few past years, have been more and more confronted to a difficult situation, resulting in a serious security deterioration,” Messahel he said.
“The unprecedented mobilization of the international community, including Algeria, to back Mali’s efforts for the restoration of peace and stability, through a multifaceted, dense cooperation, has culminated in undeniably satisfactory results, leading to optimism.”
This is shown in the “latest developments of the process for the implementation of Bamako’s Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation in Mali, the outcome of Algiers Process, despite the many hindrances along its path.”
