Libya crisis: Messahel receives large delegation representing Al-Bunyan al-Marsous

ALGIERS- Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel has received, Wednesday in Algiers, a large Libyan delegation representing the Al-Bunyan al-Marsous, and led by Major General Salem Mhamed Djeha, said the Foreign Minister in a statement.
The discussions, which follow the different visits paid to Algeria by Libyan politicians, senior officials, personalities and MPs, are in line with Algeria’s efforts to further bridging the positions of Libyan parties, said the Ministry’s statement.
The discussions focused on means to “accelerate the political resolution of the crisis, with the preservation of the unity and the territorial integrity of Libya and the cohesion of its people, while favouring national reconciliation,” said the statement.
The members of the Libyan delegation outlined the current military and security situation in Libya.
In this regard, they underlined the capacity of Libyan forces in building a unified military institution. They also recalled their achievements in combating terrorism, particularly in Sirte.
For his part, Messahel recalled Algeria’s significant contribution to narrowing the gap between Libyan parties as well as its continuous action for a lasting political solution, through an inclusive inter-Libyan dialogue and national reconciliation, without any foreign interference, added the statement.
The minister underlined the “need for Libyans to combine efforts to build strong and legitimate institutions, especially a unified national army.”
Messahel praised the achievements made by units of Al-Bunyan al-Marsous forces, in recovering control over the city of Sirte and in combating terrorism.
The Libyan delegation hailed Algeria’s continuous efforts for a political solution, in accordance with the Libyan political accord of 17 December 2015 and its support to Libyan people for the restoration of lasting peace, stability and security in the country.
