ALGIERS- Italy’s Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs Vincenzo Amendola will pay a working visit to Algeria on Wednesday and Thursday,
at the invitation of Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdelhamid Senouci Bereksi, said Wednesday a Ministry’s statement.
The two-day visit is part of the “political consultation between the two countries, in accordance with Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighbourliness and Cooperation, signed between Algeria and Italy in January 2003,” said the statement.
This visit comes after the working and friendship visits paid to Algeria by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi on 2 December 2014, and Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni on 2 February 2015, added the statement.
The discussions between the Italian official and Bereksi will be an “opportunity to deepen the existing political dialogue between the two countries and to assess bilateral relations,” said the Ministry’s statement.
The economic relations and their development over the past years will be also at the centre of their discussions.
The two officials will also “exchange views on regional and international issues of common interest, particularly the situation in Libya, Mali, and the Middle East, as well as the fight against terrorism,” added the statement.
At the political level, relations between the two countries “are excellent and marked by constant high-level political dialogue and regular exchange of visits between Algerian and Italian officials,” said the statement.
The two countries have developed “intense and diversified cooperation,” said the Ministry’s statement, adding that Italy is Algeria’s second large trading customer and its third supplier.
