Messahel: Algeria prepares for meeting of neighbouring countries next October in Niger

ALGIERS-Minister for Maghreb Affairs, the African Union and the Arab League Abdelkader Messahel announced Wednesday that Algeria is preparing a meeting between neighbouring countries in next October in Niger.
“Algeria is preparing a meeting between neighbouring countries in next October in Niamey (Niger) in order to coordinate actions between these actions in favour of the region,” Messahel stated after the audience he held with Vice-President of the Presidential Council of Libya’s Government of National Accord Moussa al-Kouni at the Algiers Conference Center “Abdellatif Rahal.”
This meeting will “focus on several issues relating to the situation in the region, threatened by terrorism, organized crime, drug and weapon trafficking, as well as illegal immigration,” the minister said.
Messahel stated that his meeting with the Libyan official is part of permanent dialogue between Algeria and Libya on “the political situation in Libya, the implementation of the political agreement in this country and support to this brotherly country in this sensitive stage.”
The minister pointed out that he broached with al-Kouni UN meetings on the Libyan issue; mainly that of G22 that resulted in “very important” results, including support to the Presidential Council of Libya’s Government of National Accord, Libya’s unity and national sovereignty and political solution part of dialogue and national reconciliation.”
“These internationally-agreed results are among the main recommendations of Algeria regarding Libya,” he added.
For his part, the Libyan official stated in a statement after the audience that he discussed with Messahel “issues of common interest, mainly the situation in Libya, the implementation of the political agreement, difficulties on the sport and means to overcome them, in addition to Algeria’s position at the international, Arab and regional levels.”
Al-Kouni expressed gratitude to Algeria for its position “in favour of the settlement of the political crisis in Libya and its support the Libyan government and people, as well as country’s territorial integrity.”
In response to a question on the OPEC informal meeting held in Algiers, the Libyan official extended warm thanks to Algeria for its key role in bringing closer opinions of participants to reach a consensus on the stabilization of the oil market, expressing the hope that the meeting “will result in limitation of output.”
