EP resolution: Algeria rejects any form of interference in its internal affairs

ALGIERS- Acting President of the Council of the Nation, Salah Goudjil, received on Thursday a telephone communication from President of the Senate of the French Republic, Gérard Larcher,
through which he expressed Algeria’s rejection of any form of interference in its internal affairs, in the wake of the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on the human rights situation in Algeria.
Goudjil expressed to his interlocutor, Gerard Larcher, Algeria’s rejection of “any form of interference in its internal affairs,” adding that the resolution adopted by the European Parliament on the human rights situation in Algeria is “an act in total contradiction with parliamentary practice,” according to the same source.
Talks between the Presidents of the two Chambers also made it possible to review parliamentary relations between the Council of the Nation and the French Senate.
The two parties expressed their common will to give these relations “more interest” and to extend them to “wider” horizons through, in particular, the optimization of mechanisms for consultation and coordination provided for in the protocol of bilateral cooperation, signed between the two parties in September 2015 in Algiers, in order to support the cooperation desired by both countries and governments in various areas, in “strict respect” of mutual interests of both peoples and both countries, in accordance with the steps, efforts and directions of the leaders of both countries, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic and Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic.
Discussions between the Speakers of the two Houses of Parliament also covered other issues and dossiers, including the impact of the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, Islamophobia and democracy, as well as various issues and dossiers of common interest.
